THERE WERE A lot of ways that a reboot or re-tooling of Mainframe Entertainment's 3D children's series ReBoot could've gone. There's enough content that goes relatively unexplored in the show: Bob's past, the Guardians' organization, Code Masters. Hell, you could've reinterpreted the entire concept of programs interacting with games played by the user and expanded on the "computer life" within the machine that the world of ReBoot clearly represents.

Yet, now-a-days, a reboot for 20 plus year old franchise like ReBoot, or even Power Rangers (not Super Sentai, but Power Rangers) seems to be to take it as far away from its original concept as possible and create a end result that can only be called "[blank]-in-name-only".

This is the case with Reboot: The Guardian Code, a teen comedy about a bunch of teenagers who go into a virtual reality world to fight a re-conceptualized Megabyte, the only thing besides the name ReBoot that even suggests that this is connected to the same series.

This is disheartening, but to be honest, the extreme the Guardian Code represents is not unexpected. From the years following the end of the fourth season's cliffhanger, nothing much of what was reported from the "ReBoot Revival" remotely suggested it was interested in building off of the concepts of the show itself, but moving as far away from it as it could.

For lack of a better word, when you got one of the original creative minds quite literally using a parody of the hashtag, #NotMyPresident, you know you done fucked up.
